Renovation and Conservation of Industrial Heritage - BALSAN Historic Site in Châteauroux, France

We're delighted to be involved in the restoration and enhancement of the historic site of the emblematic BALSAN company, in the Indre region of France. Initiated by Châteauroux Métropole, the project aims to transform this industrial wasteland into a dynamic business hub, while preserving its heritage and offering a new space dedicated to history.

Some project highlights :

BALSAN is an emblematic carpet manufacturer with a rich industrial history. It is the heir to the Manufacture Royale du Château du Parc, founded in 1751 in Châteauroux.
Recovery and redevelopment: The industrial wasteland was bought back by the community and transformed into a vibrant and useful urban site.
Historical space: A space dedicated to history, with cast-iron elements such as the columns that serve as load-bearing and rainwater evacuation supports, recalling the site's industrial past.

Cast iron : Ghm's DNA
At Ghm, cast iron is at the heart of our know-how and identity. We are proud to bring our expertise in cast iron to this industrial heritage conservation project.
Our contribution:

  • Refurbished and new masts: Supply of 16 refurbished cast-iron masts and 47 new masts reproduced identically.
  • Additional elements: Installation of cast-iron gratings at the foot of the masts to collect rainwater.

20 CORTO luminaires from our sister company Eclatec will then be suspended on cables between certain masts.

This project perfectly illustrates the Group's commitment to preserving and celebrating industrial history, while using our expertise in ornamental cast iron to create durable, aesthetically pleasing structures.
This ambitious project aims to be completed by the end of 2024, in collaboration with our passionate partners committed to heritage conservation.
